These beautiful minimalist hand made bags are created by Oklahoma artist, Jennifer Morales.  Each unique piece is carefully crafted from antique and vintage silk Japanese Meisen kimono textiles.  Morales re-purposes these incredible and modern fabrics into artful one-of-a-kind accessories such as hand bags and other other accessories.

Meisen Silk Kimonos were produced during the late 19th through the mid 20th century. Both the warp and weft threads were dyed using stencils and weaved afterwards. This process creates the unique blurred edges in the designs. The Art Deco, Cubism, and Constructivism movements, along with the traditional Minimalism in Japanese design, became popular motifs on Meisen textiles. Following WWI, this bold change in fashion from Western influence, represented the liberation of Japanese women, using color and design to express their individuality. During production, contests were held at design houses and only twenty kimonos were made from each design. After WWII, Japan was exposed to an even large influence from Western culture and dress, and the Meisen kimono lost its popularity. Today, only a handful of workshops in Gunma Prefecture still create Meisen textiles. However, recently, over the years there has been a resurgence of demand for kimonos, and they are now highly regarded and coveted by all levels of collectors around the world.
