Cave Canem is a handmade metal sculpture and stand, created exclusively for the exhibit, The Painters of Pompeii: Roman Frescoes from the National Archaeological Museum, Naples, this work pulls direct inspiration from the entrance to The House of the Tragic Poet, a Pompeii villa featured in the exhibit (see video below for reference). This incredible piece was made by globally renowned Mexican-American artist, Ernesto Sanchez. Now a resident Oklahoman, Sanchez is head of exhibition design at the OKCMOA, and in his spare time still creates works in multiple mediums, from painting to sculpture.
